Start Small. THINK BIG.

Today, February 5, 2015, marks our One Year Anniversary since we held our Ribbon Cutting & Launch Event. Glad to see that our weather is consistent from last year (currently at 32 degrees Fahrenheit) to let the memories come flooding back It was a wonderful first year that included many highlights for me as Director. We really were thinking big we we set out to build something as a community for the community back at the end of 2012. As far as we have come since then, we will never sit still. We strive to be just like the numerous emerging businesses and entrepreneurs that office out of and visit IDEA Works FW on a regular basis.  They are always pushing forward with new ideas, new insights, and new understandings.

There is a lot to celebrate in the Fort Worth Startup Commuity (which I hope you can join us for our Vision 2020 event on February 18) and we are incredibly proud to be a part of it. Before I dive into some of my favorite moments from our first year it is important to note what IDEA Works FW was comprised in year one.

5 clients, 1 Entrepreneur-in-Residence, 16 Advisory Council members, 9 Work Group members, 13, Board of Directors, 3 Interns, 2 Staff members, and 3 Contract Employees. These are the people who had a direct impact on all things IDEA Works FW since we launched and many before launch.

Collage Year One

Throughout the year we hosted multiple community organizations, sponsored and hosted 1 Million Cups Fort Worth, sponsored the first Startup Weekend in Fort Worth (an absolute blast!), gave presentations throughout the city introducing our entrepreneurial ecosystem, and pushed for as many opportunities to connect the entrepreneurs that call Fort Worth home.

Some of my favorite moments:

  • First clients joining!
  • Ribbon Cutting & Launch Event
  • So many Advisory Council members joining (BIG thank you to all of you!)
  • Co-organizing the first first Startup Weekend Fort Worth
  • Hosting LeaderKids and introducing them to entrepreneurship
  • Meeting tons of entrepreneurs at 1 Million Cups
  • Presenting at the first Intro to the Fort Worth Startup Community event
  • Seeing the light turn on in one-on-one meetings
  • Seeing the excitement on the faces of entrepreneurs when they realize they are not alone.

I love my job and very excited about what we have in store for 2015. From opening it up for coworking memberships to the myriad of events planned to building the Fort Worth startup community every chance we get. Thank you to everyone for a great first year!
